Start at floor level
Crawl the rooms your child lives in. What’s within reach — cords, small objects, cabinet handles, outlets? Make a list; you’ll fix these first.
Anchor the furniture
Tip-over is a preventable hazard in most family homes. Secure bookshelves, dressers, and televisions to the wall — the anchor kit is cheap, the install is an afternoon.
Lock the real hazards
Cabinets under sinks and anywhere cleaners or medications live get latches. Outlets get covers. Stairs get gates at both ends.
Do a final safety pass
Repeat the walk after every big change — a new stage of movement, a new home, a grandparent’s visit. Childproofing is a habit, not a one-time project.
